All heat pumps work in a similar fashion and in simple terms in the 'opposite way' to your domestic fridge. For example, an air source heat pump will take cooler outside air and compress it into warmer air, that is then used to heat your home or business. Air-to-air heat pumps simply need a suitable outside space and are generally easy to install. This often makes them ideal for both new builds or retro-fit where space is limited, and minimal disturbance is required.

Air-to-water heat pumps are similar and can be very effective. These need the addition of a cylinder and a small space in which to install it. A ground source system could also work well for you, especially with a new build. They take advantage of the energy below ground. The heat pump extracts this energy to provide a reliable, low carbon energy source that is particularly suited to underfloor heating.
